A Pre-Diwali Relief as 'Bharat Atta' Provides Wheat Flour for Rs 27.50 per kg Nationwide

Bharat Atta Scheme Latest News: In a significant move just ahead of the festive season, the Central Government has introduced the 'Bharat Atta' scheme, offering a much-needed respite to the common man. Under this initiative, wheat flour is now available across the country at a subsidized rate of Rs 27.50 per kilogram, significantly below the current market prices ranging from Rs 36 to Rs 70, dependent on quality and location.

The Distribution of 'Bharat Atta' is being facilitated through 800 mobile vans and over 2,000 retail outlets nationwide, all operating under the aegis of cooperative societies, namely, NAFED, NCCF, and Central Bhandar. The introduction of this scheme follows a successful pilot sale in February, where 18,000 tonnes of wheat flour was offered at Rs 29.50 per kg through these cooperative societies under the Price Stabilization Fund scheme.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal took the lead in inaugurating the 'Bharat Atta' scheme, flagging off a fleet of 100 mobile vans. Speaking about the initiative, Goyal emphasized, "Now that we have conducted a successful trial, we have formalized the process. Wheat flour should be accessible to every corner of the country at a rate of Rs 27.50 per kg."

During the trial phase, the distribution was limited to a small number of stores, resulting in relatively low sales. However, the expansion of the program to encompass 800 mobile vans and 2,000 retail outlets under the supervision of the three agencies promises to bolster the availability and accessibility of affordable wheat flour throughout the nation. This move is poised to provide significant relief to the general public by ensuring access to an essential staple at affordable rates in the run-up to Diwali and beyond.
