CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Government has introduced the Scholarship 2023-24 program, specifically aimed at providing financial support to Scheduled Caste students pursuing higher education. This initiative seeks to assist students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in pursuing their educational aspirations. As part of the program, the Punjab government will issue free-ship cards to eligible students who are pursuing higher education after completing their 10th standard.

To avail of this scholarship opportunity, applicants must be residents of the state of Punjab and belong to the Scheduled Caste category. The annual family income of the student's parent or guardian should not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakhs. Additionally, applicants must be enrolled in Government, Recognized, or Private University/College/School. It's important to note that free-ship cards will be issued to first-year students, commonly referred to as "freshers."

The Application process for the free-ship program is accessible online through the portal http://scholarships.punjab.gov.in. Detailed instructions and guidelines for applying for the scholarship can be found in the Student Registration and Free-ship Card Manual available in the Help Menu of the portal.

It's worth mentioning that renewal students are not required to submit new applications for the scholarship. The institutions they are enrolled in will automatically forward their applications, ensuring a streamlined process for eligible students. Furthermore, it is essential that applicants have an Aadhaar-seeded and active bank account to facilitate the disbursement of the scholarship funds.

For fresh applicants, an Income Certificate issued by a Competent Authority (typically a Tehsildar/Naib Tehsildar) is a mandatory document. When applying for the scholarship, students are advised to thoroughly review their details before locking their submissions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
