MOHALI: A Video is going viral on social media in which a Sikh man can be seen beating a person. Users on social media are claiming that this video is from Punjab, India where Sikh people are beating Hindus. Users are giving communal spin by making this video viral as recent.
X account "Hum Log We The People" shared the video and wrote (In Hindi) (Roughly Translated), "This poor Hindu being beaten by Punjab Khalistani should get justice.- This is the most sad video on social media, I request all of you to circulate it as much as possible to put this animal behind the bars."
Same as 'X' account Punjab Ki Baat shared the video and wrote, "Poor man should get #Justice. This is the saddest video on the internet I request all of you to put this animal behind bars. #Khalistan #IndiaCanada"

Spokesman in it's investigation found the post to be misleading. This video is quietly 5 years old from July 2018 and after the video went viral in the same year, Sikh man publicly apologized for his act.

While starting the investigation, we first listened to the video carefully. We found that the Sikh man was beating the migrant man for asking people to sell hair. Keeping this information in mind, we started searching for news related to the case through keyword search.

We found this video uploaded on many old posts. The oldest posts we found were from 2018. Facebook page "Channel Punjab" shared the viral video on July 10, 2018, writing, "A poor person getting beaten for asking people to sell their hairs."
Keeping this information in mind, After a lot of searching, we found an apology explanatory video of the Sikh man seen in the viral video.
Facebook page "M Singh Haddi Walia" had shared this video on July 31, 2018. The page shared two videos. The first video was of a Sikh man's explanation and the second video was of Lok Jan Shakti Party workers.
The Sikh man released a video and apologized and also the workers of Lok Jan Shakti Party made it clear that the Sikh man has accepted to bear the expenses of breaking the migrant's belongings.
"Rozana Spokesman did not confirm the viral video's date and exact location but we confirm that this video is from year 2018 and man beating hindu person publicly apologized for his act after the video went viral in the same year 2018."
