CGC Jhnajeri campus celebrated World Environment Day

The event Commenced with a group of 50 NCC Cadets who undertook a plastic-free campaign rally in Jhanjeri village.

chandigarh - The NCC & NSS Unit under the aegis of Dept. of Student Welfare of CGC Jhnajeri campus celebrated World Environment Day by hosting a series of events with the Theme- Beat Plastic pollution!! The event was inaugurated by Dr. Neeraj Sharma (Executive Director CGC) along with Senior Dignitaries and other staff members & students.

The event Commenced with a group of 50 NCC Cadets who undertook a plastic-free campaign rally in Jhanjeri village. Students visited 100 households, collected their plastic waste and distributed pamphlets on how to effectively segregate solid waste. The people of Village Jhanjeri were made aware about the potential, disastrous effects on health and environment, of using and disposing plastic. They were instead urged to take on a healthier lifestyle which posed a minimal or negligible damage to health and ecology. The village people were also told about the hazardous cost of using plastic on our environment, which is equivalent to vandalizing and jeopardizing the health of our planet.

Following the league was series of events like Donation Campaign. In this the students donated Clothes, utensils & books for the needy. The week long celebrations also witnessed competitions like Essay writing, Debate & Poster making supporting the theme of #Beat Plastic Pollution. The winners of various competitions were awarded with certificates & trophies.

 Given the numerous benefits of trees, such as the fact that they release oxygen into the air, absorb unpleasant odors as well as harmful gases, protect us from harmful ultra-violet rays, provide us with food, and play a critical role in preventing soil erosion, maintaining ecological balance, most especially in lessening the effects of global warming,  So on the concluding day, a Tree Plantation Drive was organized in the campus focusing on the vital role of trees to protect our eco systems.

The week long campaign gathered a lot of attention of the students thereby leveraging their knowledge and catapulting the campaign to a successful start. The students had a great learning during the events & were full of energy & realized the role of environment protection in our day to day lives

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Neeraj Sharma (Executive Director) said that CGC has always been on the forefront of environment conservation. Recycling, regular plantation drives and rain water harvesting are few of the many steps that we have taken towards environment conservation & will continue to propose & appreciate efforts leading to a healthy environment
