Sukhbir Singh Badal Attack Outside Golden Temple Firing Latest News Today: Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has commended the swift response of police officers Rishpal Singh, Jasbir Singh, and Parminder Singh, who successfully averted an attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal outside Sri Darbar Sahib. The incident, which could have turned fatal, was thwarted due to their vigilance.
Bhullar confirmed that the attacker, identified as Narain Singh, has a criminal past and connections to the Khalistani group Babbar Khalsa. Singh is reportedly linked to the infamous 2004 Burail jailbreak, where four inmates, including high-profile individuals like Jagtar Singh Hawara and Paramjit Singh Bheora, escaped through a 94-foot tunnel.
“We have registered a case, and a detailed investigation is underway. The matter will be examined from all possible angles,” said Bhullar, urging the public to remain calm and maintain peace.
Discussing the challenges of providing security at Sri Darbar Sahib, Bhullar explained that deploying uniformed police officers in the sacred premises is sensitive due to religious sentiments. “It is equally difficult to conduct thorough frisking in such an environment. Despite these challenges, our officers managed to act decisively, preventing any harm. I commend their dedication and quick response,” he added.
Narain Singh is currently in police custody as authorities delve deeper into his motives and possible accomplices. This incident has reignited discussions about security protocols at religious sites and the balance between respecting cultural sentiments and ensuring safety.
The police commissioner concluded by reinforcing the importance of vigilance and teamwork in addressing such threats, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to safeguard public spaces.
