Chandigarh HC grants anticipatory bail while emphasizing cooperation with the ongoing investigation
CHANDIGARH: Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, media advisor to former Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh, sought anticipatory bail in a case initiated by the Vigilance Department for alleged disproportionate wealth. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted him anticipatory bail in this matter.
During the hearing, the court instructed Bharat Inder Chahal to actively cooperate with the ongoing investigation and submit details of his properties by October 12. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for October 13. Chahal initially applied for bail in the lower court for the same case, and after its rejection, he approached the High Court. He argued that he hadn't received a property details chart and expressed concern about responding without adequate information. In response, the bench instructed the government to provide the necessary property details chart to Chahal.
It is noteworthy that the Vigilance Bureau had summoned Chahal for an inquiry before formally registering the case. However, Chahal stated that he was not informed of any case against him nor was any notice issued. Subsequently, he approached the High Court, and during this period, the Vigilance Bureau registered the case. The court's decision to grant anticipatory bail brings a new dimension to this ongoing case.
