Punjab Government to Appoint One Gazetted Officer for Each Flood-Affected Village, Latest News:The AAP-led Punjab government on Thursday, in an initiative to establish direct communication between flood victims and the administration, announced the appointment of one gazetted officer for each flood-affected village in the state.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made the announcement in a post on X on Thursday afternoon in Hindi and Punjabi.
The announcement read as, “We are appointing one gazetted officer for each village so that the administration can have direct contact with the people of the flood-affected villages of the state. This will enable the people affected by the natural disaster to share all their problems and receive quick and appropriate solutions.”
Over 1400 villages have been affected, crops washed and, farm land washed away, loss of livestock, and human lives have been lost in the worst flood of the past nearly four decades.
AAP National convener Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann were going to visit flood-affected villages today.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu are also in the state, taking stock of the villages affected in the devastating flood. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chohan earlier today told the media that he has been sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Along with the minister, two teams from the central government are also in the state to assess the ground reality and will submit a report to the centre once the assessment is over. The teams comprise of officials from various departments, including those from Agriculture, Finance, Road, Electricity and Water.
Union Ministers ShivRaj Chouhan, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and BJP Punjab State President Sunil Jakhar visited the village Makoda Patan in Dera Baba Nanak and met the flood victims.
Speaking to media he said, “We are going ahead to the next district. We have seen that sugarcane fields have also been buried in silt. The crops are completely destroyed and ruined. The situation is being assessed. I have to go to some more places. The situation we are seeing is very dire.”
