Global Classrooms: Punjab Education Dept Screens Principals for Singapore Leadership Training

As part of Punjab’s ongoing global education reform initiative, the state education department has commenced the screening process for school principals slated for leadership training in Singapore. District Education Officers (DEOs) across 15 districts, including major hubs like Ludhiana, Patiala, and Jalandhar, have been directed to verify applications for the upcoming session at the Principal Academy Singapore.

The selection process is governed by stringent eligibility criteria to ensure only qualified candidates represent the state. According to official guidelines, applicants must be regular employees with at least two years of service in their current cadre and must have successfully completed their probation. Furthermore, candidates must be 53 years or younger as of June 30, 2025, with a minimum of five years of service remaining before retirement.

Verification at the local level is already underway. Deputy DEO of Ludhiana, Amandeep Singh, confirmed that five applications have already been forwarded following the closure of the registration portal. While the initial vetting happens at the district level, the final selection will be determined by state-level authorities.

To date, approximately 235 principals and education officials from Punjab have participated in this international training programme. While the specific dates for the next batch are yet to be announced, the department requires all candidates to hold a valid Indian passport until at least September 2026 and maintain a clean disciplinary record.
