Jathedar Raghbir Singh announced the following directives for Sukhbir Singh Badal and other core members.

Sukhbir Singh Badal Tankhaiya Verdict by Sri Akal Takht Sahib latest News Today: Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the highest temporal authority of the Sikh community, has delivered its verdict on the controversial pardon granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim during the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) government. The punishment includes symbolic acts of repentance for Sukhbir Singh Badal, members of the core committee, and cabinet leaders of the 2015 Akali Dal government.

The Punishment

Jathedar Raghbir Singh announced the following directives for Sukhbir Singh Badal and other core members:

  • Cleaning Duty: On December 3, Sukhbir and others must clean the bathrooms of Sri Darbar Sahib from 12 noon to 1 pm.
  • Service in Langar: After cleaning, they will bathe and serve in the langar (community kitchen).
  • Prayer: They are required to recite Sri Sukhmani Sahib as part of their repentance.
  • Public Atonement: Sukhbir Singh Badal must sit outside Sri Darbar Sahib with a spear and wear a placard acknowledging his misdeeds.
  • Symbolic Offerings: They will serve in an Rs 11,000 pot and donate Rs 11,000 to Golak (religious donation box).
  • Tree Plantation: Leaders are ordered to plant and maintain 1.5 lakh saplings, with immediate instructions to plant 1.25 lakh trees.
  • Return of Misused Funds: Money spent on advertisements during the SAD government is to be returned to the SGPC account with interest. Sukhbir Singh Badal and other involved leaders will be held responsible for ensuring the repayment.
  • In a historic decision, the title Fakhr-e-Qaum (Pride of the Community) awarded to former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in 2011 was also revoked posthumously.

Restitution and Organizational Reform

The verdict also includes directives aimed at financial accountability and restructuring within the Shiromani Akali Dal:

  1. Leadership Elections: The Akal Takht has instructed that the election for the SAD president be conducted within six months.

  2. New Hirings: Sri Akal Takht Sahib also directed to get the new hirings done.

Admissions and Denials

During the proceedings, Sukhbir Singh Badal admitted to the mistake of pardoning Ram Rahim. However, other leaders, including Prem Singh Chandumajra, denied any wrongdoing. Senior leaders such as Balwinder Singh Bhundar, Daljit Singh Cheema, Karnail Singh Panjoli, and Gurcharan Singh Grewal also refuted the allegations.

Statements from the former cabinet members of the SAD government (2007-2017), executive committee members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in 2015, and SGPC head advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami were recorded.

Admissions by Sukhbir Singh Badal

During the proceedings, Singh Sahibans asked several critical questions that elicited candid admissions from Sukhbir Singh Badal. He openly acknowledged the following:

  • Neglect of Panthic Issues: When asked if he had neglected Sikh interests during the Akali government, Badal admitted, "Yes."
  • Promotion of Officers Involved in Violence: He confessed to promoting and giving tickets to officers responsible for killing innocent Sikhs.
  • Influence in Pardoning Ram Rahim: He admitted to using his influence to get the Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Ram Rahim, pardoned, including summoning Jathedars to his residence to discuss the pardon.
  • Patronage of Sacrilege Accused: Badal accepted responsibility for supporting individuals linked to sacrilege incidents and the martyrdom of Sikhs during related protests.
  • Behbal Kalan Firing Incident: He admitted to making mistakes regarding the handling of the Behbal Kalan firing case.
  • Misuse of Golak Funds: Badal also confessed to misusing funds from Golak (religious offerings) and misappropriating resources for publicity purposes.
