Sarna reportedly expressed dissent over the Tankhaiya verdict issued against Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Harvinder Singh Sarna Declared Tankhaiya: In a significant decision, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the highest temporal authority of the Sikh community, has declared Harvinder Singh Sarna, former president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), as Tankhaiya (guilty of religious misconduct). This verdict comes in response to allegations of undermining the authority of Akal Takht and making adverse remarks against its decisions.
The complaint against Sarna was filed by DSGMC President Harmit Singh Kalka, who alleged that Sarna had demeaned the sanctity and authority of Akal Takht Sahib. Kalka provided a video clip as evidence to support his claims, which was thoroughly reviewed during the proceedings.
The Allegations
Kalka accused Sarna of questioning Akal Takht Sahib’s recent actions, including its decision to convene a meeting of Sikh scholars to seek their guidance on crucial matters. Sarna reportedly expressed dissent over the Tankhaiya verdict issued against Sukhbir Singh Badal, criticizing the process and its outcomes.
“No one has the right to undermine the authority of Akal Takht Sahib,” Kalka asserted. He emphasized the need to uphold the dignity and supremacy of the Takht in guiding the Sikh community.
Akal Takht Sahib's Verdict
Following a detailed review of the complaint and evidence, the Singh Sahibans declared Harvinder Singh Sarna as Tankhaiya. The title carries with it a mandate for the accused to seek forgiveness from the Sikh congregation and adhere to the spiritual penalties prescribed by Akal Takht Sahib.
