Bathinda to Get Continuous Water Supply as Mann Govt Sanctions INR 26 Crore Project Under AMRUT 2.0
As the Mann Government moves to address long-standing water supply challenges, Bathinda’s residents are witnessing relief with this transformative move. The Punjab government aims to ensure every citizen of Bathinda has access to clean and uninterrupted water with an outlay of INR 26 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0) initiative.
Many parts of the city faced issues with water scarcity and poor-quality water for many years, affecting daily life and dignity. The INR 26 crore water supply projects are designed to lay pipelines and to guarantee access to clean water becomes a basic, assured right for every resident.
Mayor Padamjeet Singh Mehta laid the foundation stone for this significant project in Amarpura Basti. The initiative promises modern, sustainable infrastructure with advanced technology to ensure efficient water distribution and conservation. This approach ensures Bathinda’s water supply system will serve residents reliably for generations.
Mayor Mehta emphasised that areas such as Model Town Phase 4-5 and Amarpura Basti have historically faced water scarcity, often relying on borrowed water. Under the INR 26 crore project, two water tanks will be constructed, one in Amarpura Basti and another in Model Town Phase 4-5, each with a capacity of 2 lakh gallons. Additionally, 63,000 metres of pipelines will provide new connections to approximately 8,600 households, benefiting around 35,000 residents directly.
Mayor Mehta thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Local Bodies Minister Dr Ravjot Singh, noting that their guidance has enhanced Bathinda’s infrastructure and improved public welfare. He highlighted that the foundation stone is the beginning of a new chapter in providing clean and reliable drinking water to areas that have long grappled with shortages.
The INR 26 crore investment is expected to enhance public health by reducing waterborne diseases such as dysentery and typhoid, while supporting children’s physical and mental development. Beyond the infrastructure, the project reinforces public confidence in the government’s commitment towards addressing essential needs and improving citizens’ lives.
This initiative is a significant step towards making Bathinda a ‘water secure’ city. The Mann Government’s focus on sustainable infrastructure, public health, and long-term development demonstrates a vision to position Punjab among India’s most facility-rich states. Bathinda residents can look forward to a future of clean water, better health, and improved quality of life with this project – a tangible outcome of the government’s dedication towards public welfare.
