Punjab Horticulture Minister Mr. Mohinder Bhagat announced that the state government, under Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann's leadership, is intensifying efforts to promote crop diversification. By offering significant subsidy incentives, the administration aims to transition farmers toward horticulture.

According to the Minister, the National Horticulture Mission (NHM) allows farmers to secure up to a 40 percent subsidy for establishing new orchards and engaging in other horticultural projects. This strategic shift is designed to protect Punjab's depleting groundwater levels, reducing dependency on the traditional wheat–paddy cycle while simultaneously boosting agricultural earnings through the cultivation of high-value crops.

Regarding the enrolment process, Mr Bhagat clarified that farmers interested in these benefits should apply through their local District Horticulture Offices. To ensure a smooth experience, departmental field staff are available to guide applicants through the necessary paperwork, eligibility criteria, and administrative formalities.

Mr. Bhagat reiterated the Mann Government's vision to grassroots transparency, ensuring that these farmer-centric advantages are delivered promptly. He encouraged the farming community to capitalise on these schemes to achieve better financial returns by diversifying into fruit and vegetable production.
