West Bengal 2026 Elections: Amit Shah Predicts BJP Victory, Criticises Mamata Banerjee’s TMC Rule

In Kolkata, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that West Bengal will have a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in 2026. He predicted a two-thirds majority for his party in the upcoming Assembly elections and effectively sounded the poll bugle in the state. Shah accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government led by Mamata Banerjee of abetting infiltration of Bangladeshis for electoral gains, saying the BJP would not only identify illegal immigrants but also drive them out once in power.

He blamed the TMC in a press conference for thwarting national security efforts by not providing land for fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, thereby preventing completion of the barrier designed to stop infiltration. Shah claimed that fear, corruption and misgovernance have defined Bengal under the TMC and alleged that the politics of fear and violence had surpassed even the Communist era.

Shah portrayed the BJP as the agent of change with a promise to stop infiltration from eastern borders and revitalise the state’s development. He insisted that replacing the current administration was necessary to ensure good governance and address security concerns that, in his view, have left the people of Bengal anxious.
