"Those running 'Punjab Bachao Yatra', have only looted Punjab", said Punjab CM.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann's Sukhvilas Expose News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday made a big exposure related to the Sukhvilas resort which belongs to Sukhbir Singh Badal's family. He claimed that the Badal family had looted Rs 108,73,70,000 in the name of Sukhvilas by creating a policy that was only beneficial to them.
He revealed how the earlier governments have looted the money that came out of the taxes and how they spent the people's money in their interest. Punjab Chief Minister made exposure related to Sukhvilas, initially called Metro Eco Green Resort, a 7-star hotel in Mohali, where there are huge rooms and a swimming pool in each one of it.
He said it all began from Metro Eco Green Resort. During 1985-86, the Badal family bought 86 Canal 16 Marla land, which was specifically a forest area where construction was banned.
The Chief Minister further said that "they brought Eco Tourism Policy in 2009 wherein an amendment was made that a hotel can be constructed here. This policy included only one hotel. They even took the CLO themselves for the same as they were in power."
"They took all the approvals for only their hotels while no other hotels availed any of the benefits", he said, adding that the majority of share in Metro Eco Green Resort is held by the Badal family.
He further revealed that the construction activities started on 27.5.2013 while the commercial activities kicked off on 1.4.2016. Punjab Chief Minister blamed the Badal family for misusing power by waiving off VAT and GST costs (Rs 85,84,50,000), Electricity Duty (Rs 11,44,60,000), Luxury Tax, and Annual License Fees (Rs 11,44,60,000) over Sukhvilas for 10 years — 11.5.2015 to 10.5.2025.
The total amount waived off was Rs 108,73,70,000.
He added that no other hotel was given this benefit besides the Badal family also constructed 6-lane highways towards the hotel so that the convenience wouldn't be affected. For this, roads, worth Rs 4,13,000, were constructed around this area.
"It is a conflict of interest, a misuse of power. It was their time, and their government, they did everything in their favor. But now, an action would be taken against them. A thorough investigation would be initiated soon," he said.
