Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh’s APCC president V Gurunadham, on Tuesday, defending Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, said that his skipping Justice Surya Kant’s swearing-in ceremony was "not intentional".
Talking to PTI on the matter, V Gurunadham said, “Congress condemns the statements made by BJP. Rahul Gandhi's absence is not intentional. How can they blame him, knowing that he is not in Delhi?"

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla had sharply criticized Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi for allegedly for skipping the ceremony.
Poonawalla had alleged that Rahul Gandhi prioritizes “family over the constitutional system.”
Speaking to ANI, the BJP spokesperson had remarked, “He gives more importance to family dynasty than to the constitutional system. They talk about the Constitution, but whenever there is a constitutional program, they choose to boycott it. Rahul Gandhi ji remains busy with jungle safaris, parties, and foreign tours.”
President of India Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Justice Surya Kant in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, had extended his warm wishes to the new CJI.
“Extending my warm wishes to Justice Surya Kant on taking oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India. His elevation marks the beginning of a 14-month tenure at a critical juncture for our justice system. I am confident that under his leadership, constitutional values, institutional strength, and public trust in the rule of law will be further reinforced, advancing the promise of justice for every citizen,” Kharge wrote in a post on X.
