Punjab Municipal Corporation Elections 2024 Schedule Latest News Today: The Punjab State Election Commission has officially announced that general and by-elections for municipal corporations and nagar councils/panchayats across the state will take place on December 21. Punjab State Election Commissioner Kamal Chaudhary shared the election schedule, outlining the following key dates:
- Filing of nominations: December 9, from 11 AM to 3 PM
- Last date for nominations: December 12, until 3 PM
- Scrutiny of nominations: December 13
- Withdrawal of nominations: December 14
- Polling date: December 21, from 7 AM to 4 PM
- Counting of votes: Same day, post-polling
The elections will cover five municipal corporations—Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Phagwara—spanning a total of 381 wards. By-elections for local bodies will also be conducted on the same date.
Approximately 3.73 million voters are expected to participate, with polling conducted via electronic voting machines (EVMs). To ensure smooth operations, comprehensive security arrangements will be in place to maintain law and order.
Expenditure Limits for Candidates
The Election Commission has set the following expenditure limits for candidates contesting the elections:
- Rs 4 lakh for municipal corporation wards
- Rs 3.6 lakh for class-1 municipal council wards
- Rs 2.3 lakh for class-2 municipal council wards
- Rs 2 lakh for class-3 municipal council wards
- Rs 1.4 lakh for nagar panchayat wards
