New Delhi: Union minister Smriti Zubin Irani today said the excitement with which
women celebrate the International Women s Day should not be limited to a
single day, but throughout the year.
She was addressing Shakti
Parv , a three-day event organised at the Indira Gandhi National Centre
for the Arts (IGNCA) here on the occasion of International Women Day.
"I
am optimistic and ambitious that this excitement, passion and
celebration is not just limited to a single day. Every day is Women s
Day, every day is the day of their power, every day is the festival of
humanity wherein women are the centre point," she said.
The
information and broadcasting minister also narrated a real life story of
a woman in rural Punjab who tried to kill her third daughter by keeping
her naked in a chilly winter night due to pressure from her in-laws.
When
the young girl did not die, the woman thought if her daughter could
fight against her death whole night, why could not she fight against her
husband for raising their daughter, Irani said.
The Union
minister also released three books namely Rani Lakshmibai , Razia
Sultana and 'Prachin Bharat ke Stri Ratna on the occasion.
She also complimented the publications division for bringing out the book on Rani Lakshmibai and Razia Sultana in 13 languages.
