President Ram Nath Kovind to visit Amritsar tomorrow

Amritsar: President Ram Nath Kovind is scheduled to visit Amritsar on November 16.

Accompanied by Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore and Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, he will pay obeisance at the Golden Temple and Durgiana Mandir and pay tributes to martyrs at the Jallianwala Bagh.

An official spokesperson said it would be his first visit to the holy city. He would stay here for around two hours, before returning to New Delhi.

SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar said he would be honoured as per the traditions. He added that if time permitted, various issues would be taken up with him that may include the release of Sikh political prisoners languishing in jails, scrapping of blacklisted Sikhs and stolen literature and rare books from the Central Sikh Library lying in possession of the Army since Operation Blue-star.

Meanwhile, the district, civic and police administration are on toes to make the requisite arrangements to welcome the President. Deputy Commissioner KS Sangha and the Police Commissioner conducted a joint meeting with the officials concerned and SGPC officials.
