
The Andhra Pradesh Anti Corruption Bureau has arrested MC department official Golla Venkata Raghurami Reddy who owned the assets worth Rs 500 crore during his tenure. Reddy was going to retire on September 28, 2017 but the anti-corruption bureau arrested him three days prior to his retirement.
According to the sources, Reddy had planned a big party for his relatives and friends at a resort in abroad and even he had booked the air tickets for them.
Fate, however, had other plans for him. Reddy’s universe came crashing down on Monday, just two days before the big occasion, when anti-corruption bureau (ACB) sleuths arrested him from Visakhapatnam for amassing assets amounting to over 500 crore.
He was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday evening. Anti-corruption authorities raided as many as 16 properties belonging to Reddy, director of state town planning with the municipal administration department, through Monday and Tuesday.
His assets were spread across Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Chittoor, Mangalagiri, Tirupati, and even Shirdi in neighbouring Maharashtra. ACB director general RP Thakur todl the media that the total value of the confiscated assets would be revealed once the raids are completed.
The market value of the assets confiscated so far is estimated at Rs 500 crore. ACB officials unearthed 10 kg of gold and diamonds, gold ornaments worth Rs. 4 croreand around Rs. 50 lakh in cash at Reddy’s residence.
Reddy owns a hotel in Shirdi (Maharashtra) and 300 acres of land near Vijyawada among other properties.
