PM Modi asserted that ongoing diplomatic efforts offer the most viable path toward ending hostilities and achieving peace.

Russia-Ukraine News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said he is deeply concerned by reports of Ukraine allegedly targeting the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin with drones.

PM Modi asserted that ongoing diplomatic efforts offer the most viable path toward ending hostilities and achieving peace.

“We urge all concerned to remain focused on these efforts and to avoid any actions that could undermine them,” PM Modi wrote on his X.

PM Modi’s post comes a day after Russia reportedly claimed that Ukraine attempted to strike Vladimir Putin’s state residence in Russia’s Novgorod region. Russia warned that the alleged incident would affect its approach to peace negotiations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reportedly claimed that Ukraine launched 91 long-range drones at the residence on December 28–29. He said the drones were intercepted and destroyed by the Russian air defence system.

However, Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, categorically denied the accusations of drone attacks, calling Russia's claim "dangerous" and stating that it undermines the diplomatic efforts.

In a post on his X, Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote, "Russia is at it again, using dangerous statements to undermine all achievements of our shared diplomatic efforts with President Trump's team. We keep working together to bring peace closer."

He continued, "This alleged 'residence strike' story is a complete fabrication intended to justify additional attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv, as well as Russia’s own refusal to take necessary steps to end the war. Typical Russian lies. Furthermore, the Russians have already targeted Kyiv in the past, including the Cabinet of Ministers building."

"Ukraine does not take steps that can undermine diplomacy. To the contrary, Russia always takes such steps. This is one of many differences between us. It is critical that the world doesn’t stay silent now. We cannot allow Russia to undermine the work on achieving a lasting peace," Zelenskyy's post further read.
