Arvind Kejriwal Announces ‘Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana’ Ahead of Delhi Elections 2025: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced a significant initiative aimed at supporting religious leaders in the capital. If re-elected to power, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government will launch the ‘Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana’, under which temple priests and Gurudwara granthis will be entitled to a monthly honorarium of Rs 18,000.
While making the announcement, Kejriwal emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of religious leaders who dedicate their lives to serving the community. "We are committed to ensuring the dignity and financial security of those who play a vital role in maintaining spiritual harmony in our society," he said.
The scheme aims to support priests and granthis by providing them with a stable income to meet their basic needs. The honorarium is part of Kejriwal's broader focus on welfare measures targeting diverse segments of Delhi’s population.
Political analysts see this move as a strategic step to strengthen AAP's appeal among faith-based communities ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The announcement has already garnered mixed reactions, with supporters hailing it as a much-needed initiative, while critics argue it may be an election-driven promise.
Kejriwal’s government has a track record of implementing welfare schemes, including subsidized electricity and free bus rides for women. The ‘Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana’ is likely to further consolidate his party’s image as one focused on addressing grassroots concerns.
As the elections approach, the proposed scheme could be a key talking point in AAP’s campaign, signaling a renewed focus on the intersection of spirituality and governance in Delhi.
