Gaurav Gogoi: Government Doesn’t Want Operation Sindoor Debate In Parliament After Third Adjournment Today
Operation Sindoor Discussion in Parliament Latest News: The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the third time today, ahead of the scheduled discussion on Operation Sindoor, following protests from the opposition demanding a debate on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The House will now resume at 2 PM.
Speaker Om Birla, who is presiding over the session, addressed the disruptions, stating, “I had requested—and I would like to request once again—in the all-party meeting, all party leaders had agreed that there should be a discussion on Operation Sindoor. I gave my consent for the discussion, and so did the government. I am requesting once again, let the discussion take place. Other topics cannot be discussed just by raising them on the floor of the House.”
He added further, “You should have said in the all-party meeting that the SIT issue should be discussed first. You should have made that commitment earlier. When you have the authority to take decisions, only then come to an all-party meeting. If someone else is making the decisions from behind, then do not attend such meetings.”
Speaker Birla then adjourned the House until 2 PM.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi alleged that it is the government that does not want to allow the discussion on Operation Sindoor to take place, and "then allegations are levelled at" the Opposition.
Speaking to the media following the third adjournment, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, "It appears that the government does not want a discussion on Operation Sindoor. We are not allowed to speak, and then allegations are levelled at us. We want to take part in the discussion on Operation Sindoor, but you just saw that no opposition members raised placards or entered the Well of the House. Even then, the House was adjourned. Let the discussion start; we are ready."
Outside Parliament, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, speaking to the media, said, “Today, in both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, the government has attempted to suppress the discussion on the murder of democracy happening in Bihar.”
On the scheduled discussion on Operation Sindoor, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Anand Bhadauria stated, “Today, the discussion in Parliament will begin on the intelligence failure in Pahalgam, the tragic incident there, the failure of foreign policy, and statements made by the U.S. President. SP MP Ramashankar Rajbhar will initiate the discussion from our party’s side. Other parties will also present their statements. Let’s see what the government has to say.”
Responding to the ongoing disruptions, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said, “The government is ready for all discussions in the House, but the opposition is obstructing proceedings by creating unnecessary drama. Democracy functions through deliberation, not drama.”
Earlier, following the House’s adjournment until 1 PM, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi said, “If I speak, it will be inside the House. I am aware of the adjournment. My opportunity to speak is inside [the House].”
