Parliamentary Session Begins with Protests; Lok Sabha Adjourned Till 12 PM Amid Sloganeering
Loksabha discussion on Operation Sindoor Latest News: The Lok Sabha session of the ongoing Monsoon Session resumed on Monday amid heavy sloganeering by Opposition MPs, both inside the House and within the Parliament premises. However, the House was soon adjourned till 12:00 PM, following continued protests by Opposition members in the Well of the House.
Addressing the disruptions, the Honourable Speaker of the Lok Sabha said, “Honourable members, you are not allowing this House to function. You want to obstruct. You don’t want to have a discussion on Operation Sindoor—is that so? Mr. Gogoi ji, and all the leaders who came to meet me, you said there should be a discussion on Operation Sindoor. And now you're doing this? Question Hour is important—why are you obstructing it? This House is not run by you. Honourable Leader of the Opposition, please instruct your members—they are not sent to Parliament to throw chits and wave placards. The nation wants to know: do you not want Question Hour to happen? Why this sloganeering? You are not letting others speak… The House is adjourned till 12:00 PM.”
A discussion on Operation Sindoor is scheduled in the Lok Sabha on 28 July following persistent demands from the Opposition for a detailed debate on the matter.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to initiate the discussion, with other Union Ministers, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, also expected to speak. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to intervene during the debate.
The Lok Sabha had previously been adjourned on Friday till Monday, following Opposition protests demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, ahead of the state elections later this year.
Speaking to ANI ahead of today’s session, BJP MP Hemang Joshi said, “Today, a detailed discussion will be held on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha. Our Defence Minister and External Affairs Minister will present their views. As far as the Opposition is concerned, they have shown sympathy for enemy countries even before Operation Sindoor was carried out. They raised questions about our fighter jets…”
Meanwhile, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, along with Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, joined the INDIA bloc’s protest inside the Parliament premises against the Bihar SIR exercise.
Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said, “We want answers to our four questions. The government has failed to take strong action against the terrorists. Where did they come from? Who were they? Trump repeated ‘ceasefire’ 25 times—we want clarity from the government. They say Operation Sindoor is still ongoing; Pakistan was informed beforehand; terror camps were destroyed—but the terrorists remained safe.”
Rajya Sabha is also going to have a discussion on Operaiton Sindoor, a day after the discussion on the topic in the Loksabha. According to ANI, out of the total 16 hours allocated for discussion on Operation Sindoor in Rajya Sabha, Congress has been allotted an approximate time of two hours, during which Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge will open the debate in the House.
