BJD Corporator Amaresh Jena Arrested in Rape Case Latest news: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has suspended Sri Amaresh Jena, Corporator of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, with immediate effect. The announcement was made through an official office order issued on Sunday, July 27.
The order, issued from BJD’s headquarters at Sankha Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, stated that the suspension was carried out by the directive of the party president. It was signed by Shri Pratap Jena, Vice President (Headquarters) of the BJD.
While the specific reasons for the suspension were not mentioned in the office order (No. 42/06/SB/BJD/2025), party insiders suggest that the move comes amid internal reviews and restructuring ahead of the upcoming civic elections.
The order has been marked to the person concerned and also to the Political Secretary to the Hon’ble President of the party. Further developments and official statements from party leadership are awaited.
Meanwhile, The Indian Express reported that the Odisha Police on Sunday arrested Amaresh Jena in connection with an alleged rape case lodged against him recently. Jena, a key face of the BJD in Bhubaneswar, was apprehended from Nilagiri in Balasore district following raids, after remaining absconding for several days, according to the police. On Saturday, authorities also arrested five of his associates for allegedly harbouring him.
As per the report, Jena was booked on July 23 under sections 64 (2) (rape), 89 (causing miscarriage without the woman’s consent), 296 (obscene act), and 352 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
