Rahul Gandhi Alleges Repeated Denial of Speaking Opportunity in Lok Sabha, latest news: Rahul Gandhi criticized Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday for allegedly not allowing him to speak in the House.
He claimed that he is stopped from speaking every time he stands up.
“I requested him to let me speak, but he just ran away. This is no way to run the house,” he said.
“Whenever I stand up, I am stopped from speaking,” he added.
Expressing his willingness to speak on the Maha Kumbh Mela but not being allowed to, he said, “The Prime Minister spoke on Mahakumbh, and I also wanted to speak on Kumbh Mela. I wanted to say that Kumbh was very good. I also wanted to speak on unemployment, but I was not allowed. I don’t know what the approach and thinking of the Speaker are, but the truth is we are not allowed to speak,” he added.
The Economic Times quoted Speaker Om Birla before he adjourned the House. He said, “It is expected of you to uphold the high parameters of decorum and sanctity of the House. There are several incidents known to me where MPs’ conduct was not in accordance with these high standards. Fathers, daughters, mothers, wives, and husbands have been Members of this House. So, in this context, I expect the LoP to conduct themselves as per the rules... It is especially expected of the LoP to maintain their conduct.”
It is reported that he was denied his right to speak in the House last week as well. According to sources, around 70 Congress Lok Sabha MPs met the Speaker and raised concerns over the denial of an opportunity for Gandhi to speak in the House.
