PM Modi Inaugurates Rashtriya Prerna Sthal in Lucknow on Vajpayee’s Birth Anniversary
On Thursday, December 25, 2025, PM Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal, a landmark national memorial, in Lucknow, coinciding with the 101st birth anniversary of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Modi described himself as “fortunate” to launch the inspirational complex dedicated to the ideals of nation-building and leadership, emphasising the government’s commitment to honouring the legacy of India’s great leaders.
The Rashtriya Prerna Sthal is developed at a cost of around INR 230 crore and spans over approximately 65 acres at Basant Kunj in Dubagga. It has been envisioned as a permanent national memorial and a space to inspire public service and cultural values.
Central to the memorial are three imposing 65-foot bronze statues of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The statue of Deendayal Upadhyaya was sculpted by the late Ram Sutar, while the statues of Mookerjee and Vajpayee were curated by sculptor Matu Ram. The organisers noted that the figures are among the largest in the state capital.
The newly developed complex also features a state-of-the-art museum where visitors can learn about the contributions of these visionary leaders to India’s political and social development. Modi said the museum would provide opportunities for people, especially youth, to understand the leaders’ lasting impact on nation-building.
Officials said that to manage security and logistics, authorities deployed an extensive security blanket, including over 4,000 police personnel, ATS commandos, drone surveillance, and Special Protection Group (SPG) oversight. Traffic diversions were put in place, with 2,000 buses arranged to ferry attendees and 13 designated parking zones created for vehicles.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed preparations, directing officials to ensure smooth crowd management, food distribution and overall convenience for nearly 1.5 lakh expected visitors. According to government sources, floral decorations sourced from across India adorned the venue, and breakfast and lunch arrangements were made for participants.
The inauguration reflects the government’s effort to establish monuments celebrating national figures and to foster a spirit of leadership, cultural pride and public engagement.
