The events highlight the need for strict measures to protect citizens' right to practice religion, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Hindu himself, attending the Christmas morning service earlier today at a church in Delhi along with a large congregation of Christians, instances of attacks on Christians and others celebrating Christmas allegedly by “Hindutva goons” have come to light.

Christmas decorations at Magneto Mall in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, were vandalised allegedly by “Hindutva goons” associated with “far-right” organisations, according to fact-checker Mohammed Zubair.

In multiple visuals from the mall, some attackers wearing saffron masks and others without were seen creating havoc, while seemingly the guards of the mall tried to stop them.

Yesterday, on the eve of Christmas celebrations, according to Mohammed Zubair, Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal “goons” entered St. Mary’s School in Panigaon, Nalbari, chanting slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Hindu Rashtra.” They destroyed and set fire to all the Christmas decorations prepared at the school.

According to a Times of India reporter, in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly, Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad members sat outside a prominent church (Bishop Conrad School) in the Cantonment area and recited the Hanuman Chalisa, while raising slogans of “Jai Shri Ram,” amid police presence.
