Baby Born Mid-Air Onboard Air India Express Flight
In a rare and extraordinary moment, a baby was born onboard an Air India Express flight from Muscat to Mumbai, news agency ANI reported.
According to the report, the delivery was assisted by the trained cabin crew, with crucial support from a nurse who happened to be among the passengers.
The airline noted that the professionalism and preparedness of its crew, combined with swift ground support, ensured the safe delivery of the baby mid-air, as well as immediate medical attention for both the mother and newborn.
"The moment the Thai national went into labour, the crew responded swiftly, drawing on their rigorous training to create a safe and compassionate environment for the birth," Air India Express said in a press release.
Demonstrating remarkable composure and presence of mind, the crew supported the mother through the delivery with empathy and professionalism, the statement added.
The pilots promptly alerted Air Traffic Control and requested priority landing in Mumbai, where medical teams and an ambulance were kept ready on arrival.
Upon landing, both mother and baby were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for further care. A female airline staff member accompanied them to ensure continued support.
Air India Express also stated that it is in touch with the Consulate General of Thailand in Mumbai to assist the guest with her onward travel to her home country.
“This extraordinary moment not only highlighted the preparedness of our crew but also demonstrated the spirit of compassion and teamwork at Air India Express,” the airline said.
