Actor and MNM Leader Kamal Haasan Latest News: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party leader and veteran actor Kamal Haasan took oath as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. Staying true to his roots, Haasan delivered his oath in Tamil.
Ahead of the ceremony, the 69-year-old expressed his pride and commitment, stating, “I am going to register my name. I will do my duty as an Indian.” Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, he added, “I am very proud and honored.”
According to a report by India Today, Kamal Haasan was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in June with the support of the DMK-led INDIA bloc.
The report further noted that Haasan was given the option of either contesting a Lok Sabha seat or accepting a Rajya Sabha nomination, following MNM’s decision to join the DMK-led alliance ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Haasan chose the Rajya Sabha route.
Kamal Haasan launched Makkal Needhi Maiam in 2018, presenting it as a non-Dravidian alternative to both the DMK and AIADMK, the two dominant political forces in Tamil Nadu.
