We hope that our children's same-sex marriages will be legalized in our lifetime- Rainbow Parents

New Delhi: A group of around 400 parents have written to the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, demanding 'equality in marriage' rights for their LGBTQIA++ children. It is worth noting that Justice Chandrachud is hearing petitions filed for legal recognition of same-sex marriage.

The letter written by 'Sweekar- The Rainbow Parents' assumes significance in the sense that a five-judge constitutional bench headed by the Chief Justice is hearing petitions to recognize same-sex marriages. The letter reads that, "It is our desire that the relationship between our children and their spouses be recognized under the Special Marriage Act of our country. We hope that this vast country will equally embrace its diversity and stand by inclusive values and open the door to legal marriage equality for our children as well."

Letter further reads, "Our age is increasing. Some of us are near the age of 80. We hope that our children's same-sex marriages will be legalized in our lifetime. We urge you to consider marriage equality."
