PM Modi to Inaugurate Noida International Airport at Jewar; UP Targets Aviation Hub Status
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Noida International Airport at Jewar next month, a project Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has described as a major step in strengthening the state’s aviation network.
During an interaction with members of the Indian diaspora in Singapore, Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh currently has the highest number of operational airports in the country and is now preparing to add what he called India’s largest airport. He said the Jewar airport would enhance both passenger and cargo operations, helping the state emerge as a key aviation hub.
According to the Chief Minister, the new facility is being planned not only for passenger services but also as a significant cargo centre. He highlighted the government’s emphasis on developing large-scale infrastructure projects to support economic growth, adding that the airport is being built with long-term expansion plans and will serve as an important logistics and connectivity hub.
Once operational, the Noida International Airport is expected to boost connectivity across northern India and reduce congestion at airports in and around Delhi. Officials see it as a strategic addition to the country’s aviation network, particularly to manage increasing passenger traffic and cargo demand.
The foundation stone for the greenfield project was laid by Modi in November 2021. The first phase, estimated at over Rs 29,000 crore, covers more than 1,300 hectares and will initially handle about 12 million passengers annually.
