Kerala Mob Lynching: Mortal remains of migrant worker being taken to Chhattisgarh; 5 arrested

The CM has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the bereaved family, the CMO's office said. 

Kerala Mob Lynching: The mortal remains of Chhattisgarh migrant worker Ramnarayan Baghel are being taken to his home state from Kerala's Thrissur today, the ANI reported. 

Kerala Minister K Rajan told ANI that the cabinet will decide on providing assistance to the family of Ram Narayanan from the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund.
“The family has demanded a sum of not less than Rs 10 lakhs. The cabinet will also decide on this,” K Rajan said.

A special investigation team has been formed in the case. “So far, five people have been arrested. It was reported that there was a racial slur. The investigation team has to authentically confirm that he was attacked on the pretext of being a Bangladeshi,” the minister added. 

“An inquiry will be conducted into the attack on the SC/ST community,” he said, while adding that the “chief secretary has been entrusted with the task of taking action as per the directions of the Supreme Court in 2023, regarding the attack on the communities.”

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has expressed deep sorrow and condolences, calling the incident “unfortunate and inhuman,” involving the killing of a Chhattisgarh migrant worker, Ramnarayan Baghel, a resident of village Karhi, Hasoud tehsil, Sakti district, in Kerala’s Palakkad district.

The CM has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the bereaved family, the CMO’s office said. 

It added that the Chhattisgarh government has made arrangements to immediately send the family members of the deceased to

Kerala, and to bring Ramnarayan Baghel’s mortal remains to his native village with due respect.

Vishnu Deo Sai has urged the Kerala government to ensure the strictest legal action against all those involved in this heinous crime, “so that such inhuman incidents are not repeated in the future.”
