Hours after the gruesome terror attack in Pahalgam, the first image of a suspected terrorist has surfaced. The low-resolution photo, believed to be a screenshot from a video, shows a person holding an assault rifle, facing away from the camera, and wearing a salwar kameez. The individual is suspected to be one of the terrorists involved in the brutal attack on tourists in the Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam.

In the attack, 28 civilians from various parts of the country — including two foreign nationals — were killed. The victims were identified and targeted based on their religion, the eyewitnesses said.
Following the attack, a joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Baisaran area.

Reports citing sources suggest that around 8–9 terrorists were involved in the strike, with 5–7 of them likely to be Pakistani nationals.

This is the deadliest attack on civilians in Kashmir in recent years, and the most severe since the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned to the country after cutting short his official visit to Jeddah in light of the developments. A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. today.
