Hope Rises as 35-Meter Pipeline Breakthrough Marks First Success in Ongoing Silkyara Tunnel Rescue Operations

Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse Latest News: In a pivotal development on the ninth day of the rescue mission, the ongoing efforts to save 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand's Silkyara tunnel received a significant boost. Rescue personnel successfully drilled into the closed section of the tunnel, uncovering a 35-meter-long, six-inch-diameter pipeline amidst the debris. This breakthrough marks a crucial step forward in delivering essential materials, communication equipment, and sustenance to the workers who have been stranded for the past eight days.

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) Director, Anshu Manish Khalko, along with Uttarkashi District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela and Colonel Deepak Patil leading the rescue operations, announced this development during a joint media briefing. The newly laid pipeline, described as the second 'life line,' will now facilitate the delivery of a wider range of supplies, including bread and vegetables, offering a more comprehensive support system to the trapped workers.

The rescue team expressed optimism with the successful deployment of the pipeline, enhancing the confidence in ensuring the safety of the workers. The families of the trapped workers, as well as those involved in the rescue efforts, welcomed the news with joy and renewed enthusiasm.

Arnold Dix, an international tunnel expert and president of the International Tunneling and Underground Space Association, joined the rescue operations on the appeal of the central government. Dix, impressed by the progress made so far, expressed hope for the safe evacuation of the trapped workers. However, he refrained from providing a specific timeframe for the completion of the rescue operation, emphasizing the priority of ensuring the safety of both the trapped workers and the rescue personnel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a phone call with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, reviewed the ongoing rescue efforts. The Prime Minister assured the availability of necessary rescue equipment and tools from the Center and emphasized the collaborative efforts between central and state agencies. Expressing hope for the safe extraction of the trapped workers, PM Modi highlighted the importance of maintaining their morale during this challenging time.
