Jammu and Kashmir Baramulla Encounter Latest News Today: In a significant counter-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, a heavily armed terrorist was killed, and a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site, according to a statement by the Indian Army's Chinar Corps on Sunday.
The joint forces recovered an array of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, two AK magazines, 57 AK rounds, two pistols, three pistol magazines, and other war-like stores from the site. The operation was launched based on intelligence inputs indicating a possible infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC).
"Based on intelligence inputs regarding a likely infiltration bid, a joint anti-infiltration operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police in the Uri sector of Baramulla. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged the infiltrators, who responded with indiscriminate fire. The vigilant troops returned effective fire, neutralizing the threat," the statement read.
The operation is ongoing as security forces continue to monitor the area for further threats.
Meanwhile, in a separate tragic incident, two laborers were killed in a terror attack in Gagangeer, Ganderbal district, on Sunday evening. The workers, non-locals involved in an infrastructure project, were targeted by militants. Jammu and Kashmir’s former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack, calling it a "dastardly and cowardly act."
"Very sad news of a cowardly attack on non-local laborers in Sonamarg. These innocent people were working on a vital infrastructure project. My condolences to their families," Abdullah wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
