Rajya Sabha Passes 'The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025' Latest News: The Rajya Sabha on Thursday passed 'The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025'. The bill was passed on the last day of the Monsoon Season today.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw tabled the bill in the upper house of the parliament. He said, around 45 crore Indians lose money on online gaming platforms, and that the total annual losses due to online gaming are estimated to be around Rs 20,000 crore.
He further said online games are also used in money laundering and in supporting terrorist acts against India.
The lower house had passed the bill a day earlier on Wednesday, amid protests by the opposition.
The legislation seeks to promote and regulate the online gaming sector.
