Rahul Gandhi Alleges Voter List Manipulation in Maharashtra, Calls Election Commission 'Compromised' During Boston Visit, latest New:
Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, while addressing the Indian diaspora in Boston, alleged that the Election Commission of India was “compromised” and that something was wrong with the electoral system, ANI reported.

Citing the Maharashtra elections as an example, Gandhi claimed that there was an addition of 65 lakh voters to the voter list within just two hours, which he called "physically impossible."

He said, “More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact... the Election Commission gave us a figure in the evening around 5:30 p.m., and in two hours around 7:30 p.m., 65 lakh voters had voted, which is physically impossible...”
"It's very clear to us that the Election Commission is compromised; there is something very wrong with the system..." he further added.

However, according to ANI sources in the Election Commission, , as reported, the allegations made by political parties about manipulated voter lists were unfounded.
The sources stated that very few people made use of the legal provisions such as appeals under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, or applications for correction (Section 22) or inclusion (Section 23) during the recent voter list update (Special Summary Revision) published in early January 2025.

The Special Summary Revision (SSR) is a process conducted to review the voter list, usually ahead of elections. It ensures the addition of new eligible voters—such as those who have turned 18 or changed constituencies—and removes names of deceased or duplicate voters.
Reports also claimed that, according to EC sources, only 89 appeals were made for changes in the electoral rolls in Maharashtra, even though there are 13,857,359 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) across the country. Hence, the EC sources said there was “no option but to accept the Electoral Rolls published after the completion of the SSR in January 2025 as undisputed by all.”

As per the report, Rahul Gandhi is also scheduled to address Brown University on Monday as part of his United States tour.
