PM Modi’s Helicopter Turns Back From Bengal Due to Fog, Rally Addressed Remotely
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to West Bengal’s Nadia district faced an unexpected disruption when his helicopter was unable to land at the Taherpur helipad due to dense fog and low visibility in the region.
On the afternoon of Saturday,December 20, 2025,weather conditions in and around Taherpur deteriorated sharply and reduced visibility drastically. It prevented the chopper from completing its descent. After hovering over the intended landing site for a period, the pilot had to abort the landing and return to the Kolkata airport as a safety measure.
An official told news agency PTI that the chopper “made a U-turn” after unsuccessful attempts to land because of the fog. Despite being in the vicinity of their destination, weather conditions did not improve enough to permit a safe landing.
PM Modi had arrived earlier that morning in Kolkata at 10:40 am and set out for Taherpur with plans to address a large crowd assembled for the ‘Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha’, a high-profile political rally.
When the direct arrival at the venue was not possible, the Prime Minister addressed the gathering remotely via telephone and apologised that adverse weather prevented him from physically reaching the event site.
The rally was part of broader engagements in West Bengal, including the inauguration of multiple national highway projects. Despite the travel disruption, officials indicated that Modi’s participation ensured continuity in the day’s agenda.
The incident highlights the impact of weather challenges on high-level travel logistics and the adaptability of political mobilisations in the run-up to important state elections.
