LADAKH: A Grim incident unfolded in the Leh district of Ladakh when an army truck veered off the road and tumbled into a steep ravine, resulting in the tragic loss of 9 soldiers' lives. The mishap occurred on Saturday evening at approximately 6:30 pm, sending shockwaves through the region. The vehicle, which was carrying a total of 10 soldiers at the time, was en route from Karu garrison village to Kiari near Leh.
The ill-fated truck belonged to the 311 Medium Regiment (Artillery) and was transporting a team consisting of 3 officers, 2 Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and 34 jawans. The convoy included a gypsy, a truck, and an ambulance, all part of the military mission.
The Accident transpired near the city of Kiari, situated 150 km away from the capital of Ladakh, Leh. The mishap has cast a pall of sorrow over the armed forces and the entire community. Among the passengers, eight jawans tragically lost their lives on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries while being rushed to a hospital in Leh.
Local authorities, upon receiving the distressing news, promptly dispatched police personnel to the scene. Military Medical Intervention (MI) teams swiftly provided medical assistance to the injured soldiers. The army's immediate presence at the site facilitated ongoing rescue operations, as they tirelessly worked to retrieve the affected vehicle and aid their fellow comrades.
