Winter Session Turmoil Continues as Total Suspension Count Reaches 95; Opposition MPs Penalized for Displaying Placards

Opposition MPs Suspended: In a further escalation of tensions during the ongoing winter session of Parliament, an additional 49 opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) have been suspended in the Lok Sabha today. Among those facing suspension are prominent figures from Punjab, including MPs Gurjit Aujla, Ravneet Bittu, Sushil Kumar Rinku, Jasbir Singh Gill, Mohammad Sadiq, and Manish Tiwari.

This wave of suspensions follows the expulsion of 46 MPs last week, bringing the total count of suspended MPs to a staggering 95. The disciplinary action was taken against opposition members, including Farooq Abdullah, Shashi Tharoor, Supriya Sule, for displaying placards in the Lok Sabha, violating parliamentary norms.

The Chairman of the Presidium, Rajinder Agarwal, expressed disappointment at the continued violation of rules despite repeated requests. Addressing the opposition MPs, Agarwal remarked, "It is an unfortunate incident that despite repeated requests, you continue to violate the rules, and the chair is being ignored."

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi criticized the opposition, accusing them of insulting the sanctity of the House by bringing placards inside, despite a unanimous agreement against the practice. Joshi suggested that the opposition's frustration with the recent state assembly elections might be driving these actions.

As the meeting resumed at 12:30 pm, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal, proposed the suspension of 49 members, which was passed by a voice vote. The suspended MPs include notable figures from various parties, such as Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tiwari, Supriya Sule, Farooq Abdullah, and others.
