Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister-elect of Delhi, along with senior leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is scheduled to meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 8:50 PM today to formally stake their claim to form the government in the capital.

Gupta, the MLA from Shalimar Bagh, was appointed as the Leader of the House during a BJP legislature party meeting. After over 26 years, the party has regained power in Delhi, and Gupta is set to become the next Chief Minister. She will take the oath of office at Ramlila Ground this Thursday.

Rekha Gupta is a seasoned BJP leader with a robust political journey that began in Delhi University student politics and later expanded to key roles within the party. A three-time councillor and former Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), Gupta has been a significant figure in Delhi's civic administration.

Her political acumen was tested in the 2022 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections when she contested as the BJP's mayoral candidate against AAP's Shelly Oberoi. Despite the election result, Gupta’s influence within the party only grew stronger. She currently serves as the National Vice President of the BJP Mahila Morcha and has previously held the position of General Secretary for Delhi BJP.

Gupta's political career began during her college days at Daulat Ram College, where she served as President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) in the 1996-97 session. Her foray into mainstream politics culminated in her first electoral victory in 2007 when she was elected as a councillor from North Pitampura.
