Madhya Pradesh Woman Gives Birth to Healthy Baby After Fetus Declared Dead by Government Hospital
A woman in Madhya Pradesh gave birth to a healthy baby after government hospital doctors had declared her unborn child dead. The incident occurred in Satna district, according to a report by The Times of India.
The woman, Durga Dwivedi, 24, a resident of Chakera village in Rampur Baghelan, was initially admitted to the Amarpatan Civil Hospital around 2:00 AM on the intervening night of June 15–16, after experiencing labor pains. She was accompanied by an ASHA worker and was referred to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Government District Hospital in Satna at 4:00 AM due to her high-risk pregnancy.
She arrived at the district hospital around 7:30 AM. A duty doctor ordered routine blood tests. A senior resident doctor then conducted a Doppler examination but could not detect a foetal heartbeat. A follow-up sonography also reportedly showed no fetal/foetal movement, leading doctors to conclude that the fetus had died. The woman was advised to undergo a medication-based abortion.
However, the family was not convinced by the diagnosis and opted to seek a second opinion at a private diagnostic center in Bharhut Nagar, where a fresh sonography confirmed that the fetus was alive and healthy.
The woman was immediately shifted to a private nursing home, where she gave birth to a healthy baby weighing 3.5 kg via caesarean section, without any reported complications.
According to the report, doctors at the private hospital confirmed that both the mother and baby were in good health post-delivery.
Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. L.K. Tiwari told the media that an inquiry will be conducted into the incident.
