India Post Brings 24-Hour, 48-Hour Delivery to 6 Cities as E-Commerce Demand Surges
India Post is stepping up its game in the fast-delivery segment with the launch of time-bound parcel services, targeting the booming e-commerce logistics market.
With online shopping expected to surge in the coming years, the postal department is positioning itself to handle high-speed deliveries through three new offerings that guarantee dispatch within 24 and 48 hours. The services were introduced on Tuesday by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The rollout begins in six major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. To meet the promised timelines, India Post will rely on priority-based air transport and streamlined processing systems. The services, named ‘24 Speed Post’, ‘24 Speed Post Parcel’ and ‘48 Speed Post’, are designed to compete with private courier players in the premium segment.
Customers will receive real-time SMS updates, end-to-end tracking and OTP-based verification at the time of delivery, adding an extra layer of reliability. For businesses, the department is offering features such as “book now, pay later”, centralised billing and API integration to simplify bulk operations.
Bulk shippers will also benefit from free pickup facilities.
India’s e-commerce market is projected to reach around Rs 30 lakh crore by 2030, nearly three times its current size, making timely logistics a critical factor for growth.
