Jammu & Kashmir Police Constable Amjid Ali Khan lost his life while combating Pakistani terrorists in the forests of Soan in Udhampur district today, ANI reported, citing police.

An encounter was underway between Security Forces and terrorists in the Majalta area of Udhampur in Jammu & Kashmir, the news agency earlier reported. 

IGP Bhim Sen Tuti told the media that the campaign was initiated based on an intel received yesterday in Udhampur's Soan village.

"A small team of SOG had an encounter with 3 terrorists, and our officer, Amjad Ali Khan, was hit during the firing. We tried to rescue him, but lost him due to the excessive blood loss," the IGP said.

IGP added that the campaign is ongoing, and the terrorists have fled towards the jungle after the initial firefight. "We have launched a joint operation with the army and CRPF and surrounded the jungle..." the officer further added. 

The wreath-laying ceremony of Jammu & Kashmir Police Constable Amjid Ali Khan is being held today. 

Poonch, J&K: SOG Jawan Amjad Ali Khan - Sole Breadwinner 

A relative of Amjad Ali Khan, speaking to the news agency ANI, appealed to the government to support the family of the martyred Special Operations Group (SOG) soldier, saying he was the only breadwinner of the family, and the condition of the family is "not well".

"Today we heard very sad news that one of my nephews died during an encounter in Udhampur... We request the state government, the LG, the DC Poonch, and the administrative officials, as well as the Indian government and PM Modi, to take care of this child's family. Amjad Ali Khan has two children, and he was the only breadwinner in his family... His family conditions are not well..."

Friends, Family, and relatives have gathered at the house of the soldier in Salwah Mendhar sector of Poonch district, as they mourn the irreparable loss.
