Punjab Governor Comments on Farmers' Protest and One Nation, One Election: On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, made significant statements regarding the ongoing farmers' protest and the concept of One Nation, One Election. The event, held at the Law Bhavan in Sector 37, Chandigarh, saw Kataria attend as the chief guest.
During his address, Kataria spoke in favor of the idea of holding simultaneous elections across the country under the "One Nation, One Election" concept. He explained that historically, elections were conducted together, and he believes it would be beneficial to revive this approach. According to Kataria, having elections every six months results in the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct, which hinders development projects and increases government spending.
Kataria also addressed the ongoing farmers' protest in Punjab, acknowledging the grievances of the farmers but emphasizing that protesting on the roads would not resolve the issues. He reassured farmers that the government remains open to dialogue and encouraged them to engage in constructive discussions with authorities to resolve their concerns.
In a positive development for senior citizens, Kataria announced that his administration would seek the input of elderly residents in shaping policies and making work processes more convenient. He emphasized the importance of considering the views of senior citizens, who play a crucial role in society.
