Jaishankar said that today's discussions on these issues reflected India and Japan's shared interests and mutual understanding.
External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S Jaishankar and Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi chaired the 18th India–Japan Strategic Dialogue in New Delhi today, with talks focusing on deeper cooperation in economic, maritime, supply chain, critical minerals, technology, people-to-people (P2P), and multilateral domains.
Dr S Jaishankar wrote, “Our Special Strategic and Global Partnership is on an upward trajectory and holds immense potential for shaping the world order and de-risking the international economy.”
Jaishankar said that today’s discussions on these issues reflected India and Japan’s shared interests and mutual understanding.
“Also had a useful exchange of perspectives on the Indo-Pacific and regional and global developments,” he added.

Toshihiro Kitamura, spokesperson of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, said in a statement following the meeting that several cooperation initiatives are ongoing between the two countries, with one of the flagship projects being defence equipment and technology transfer to India.
“We are in negotiations to transfer our UNICORN radar for the Navy. This will be installed on Indian naval vessels. Many things are ongoing in these security areas. Investment in the Northeast is part of the Indian government’s Act East policy,” he added.
The spokesperson further said that both leaders agreed to construct a high-speed railway between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

“We agreed to accelerate this project. E10 does not exist yet; that will be introduced in the 2030s,” the spokesperson noted.
Toshihiro Kitamura highlighted that next year will be celebrated as the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
He added that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the EAM agreed to designate the year as the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and to work towards accelerating people-to-people exchanges.
Prime Minister Modi visited Japan August in 2025.
