SC Expresses Satisfaction over Hearing in the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence Case

NEW-DELHI: In the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence Case, the Supreme Court has expressed satisfaction over the hearing being held in the Lakhimpur Kheri court. The court has said that the trial is not going slow. The bench headed by Justice Suryakant said that the hearing of this case is going on regularly. We are getting regular reports from the trial judge. The Supreme Court was hearing the petition of lawyer Prashant Bhushan, in which Bhushan had said that the trial is going slowly.

The court said that the interrogation of three witnesses in this case has been completed. However, the court clarified that we are monitoring the matter and will continue to do so. The court said that in this case the lower court will keep informing us about the report. The interim guidelines issued by the court will continue.

It is worth noting that on October 3, 2021, eight people were killed in the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri, when farmers were protesting against the visit of the then Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Keshav Prasad Maurya.

As per the FIR of Uttar Pradesh Police, four farmers were crushed by an SUV, in which Ashish Mishra was seated. Following the incident, the driver of the SUV and two BJP workers were allegedly beaten to death by angry farmers. A journalist also died in the violence.
