IMD Weather Update: Dense Fog in Punjab, Delhi’s Air Quality ‘Very Poor’

A new Western Disturbance is expected to influence the Western Himalayan region starting November 14, 2024.

IMD Punjab and Delhi Weather Update Latest News Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Kerala, Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam. Additionally, dense fog is anticipated during the night and early morning in isolated areas of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab, with wintry conditions gradually setting in across the northern states.

According to IMD, a low-pressure area currently exists over the southwest and adjacent west-central Bay of Bengal, impacting coastal areas in Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh. A new Western Disturbance is expected to influence the Western Himalayan region starting November 14, 2024.

Rainfall Forecast in Southern States

Heavy rainfall is expected across the southern states this week. From November 12 to 16, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema will experience moderate rain with possible thunderstorms. Specifically, IMD has forecasted isolated heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from November 13 to 16, and in Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and South Interior Karnataka across various dates.

Temperature Conditions and Forecast

Temperatures have remained steady over most regions, with Rajasthan’s Ajmer recording the lowest minimum at 12.4°C. IMD expects no significant temperature drop across northwest and central India for the next five days, while East India may see a gradual decrease of 3-4°C after an initial 24-hour period.

Delhi Weather and Air Quality

Delhi has recorded a slight rise in temperatures, with maximums and minimums between 30-32°C and 14-19°C, respectively. The capital is expected to experience clear skies, with light fog or mist in the morning. Northwest winds with speeds below 8 kmph are anticipated.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) continues to be in the ‘Very Poor’ category, with the overall AQI recorded at 355. Areas like Anand Vihar (394), Jahangirpuri (384), and Rohini (372) reported particularly high levels of pollution, blanketing the city in smog each morning.
