People across the country were seen burning firecrackers despite the Supreme Court's ban.

Diwali 2023 in Chandigarh News: While the nation was celebrating Diwali on Sunday, people were seen burning firecrackers despite the Supreme Court's ban across India. Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Administration had already issued restrictions on firecrackers for Diwali celebrations and other festivals, allowing only green firecrackers that too between 8 PM to 10 PM on the day of Diwali.

However, firecrackers were burnt and guidelines were not followed. It also resulted in a rise in air pollution as the air quality index went across 200.

This year, Diwali was in November, and due to the climatic conditions and stubble burning, air quality was already deteriorating and sometimes it came under very poor category. It is also pertinent to mention that there were very less bursting of fire crackers before Diwali.

However, on Diwali day there were lots of incidents of bursting firecrackers which clearly reflected in the air quality data monitored by Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee in various areas of Chandigarh. There was improvement in the AQI after 2-3 AM on November 13 and it is further improving due to the dissipation of the air.

The observations made on the next day morning of Diwali, i.e. on November 13, showed that air quality now comes to moderate which was severe last night.

Likewise, the noise levels were also increased on Diwali day in comparison to normal day. The highest noise levels were found in the Sector 22 which was 79.2 dB(A) and the lowest noise levels were found in Sector 17 which was 64.4 dB(A) during the period between 8 PM to 10 PM.
