Shimla Bandh Today: Mall Road and Baluganj Markets Closed Amidst Sanjauli Mosque Row

Traders in Shimla's Mall Road and Baluganj have announced a market closure today

Shimla Bandh Today, Sanjauli Mosque Protest Controversy Latest News: A major protest erupted in Shimla on Wednesday over the illegal construction of a mosque in Sanjauli, leading to clashes between protesters and police. The situation escalated when the police resorted to lathicharge and used water cannons to disperse the crowd, resulting in injuries to around 10 people, including policemen.

In response, traders in Shimla's Mall Road and Baluganj have announced a market closure today in protest of the police action. The Mall Road market will remain closed until 1 PM, while the Baluganj market will also observe a closure from 10 AM to 1 PM. This strike has been organized to condemn the police lathicharge that occurred during the mosque dispute in Sanjauli.

The Baluganj Chamber of Commerce issued a press release urging shopkeepers and traders to join the protest. "In protest against the lathicharge on the Hindu community in Sanjauli, the Baluganj market will remain closed on September 12, 2024, from 10 AM to 1 PM. We request all shopkeepers to close their shops and gather in front of Baluganj School from 11 AM to 1 PM for a peaceful demonstration," the statement read.

The Chamber stressed that the protest should remain non-violent and that the bandh is only for three hours to send a clear message to the administration.

Sanjeev Thakur, President of the Chamber of Commerce, confirmed that shops on Mall Road will be closed from 10 AM to 1 PM today. Both market closures are being carried out peacefully to express solidarity with the affected community and to press for administrative action regarding the Sanjauli mosque issue.
